Bank for International Settlements (BIS)

An international banking forum based in Basel Switzerland, which sets standards for bank capital and risk management and fosters co-operation among central banks and other agencies in pursuit of monetary and financial stability. The BIS has, inter alia, set model capital adequacy norms based on which bank regulators in individual countries fix the minimum capital requirements for banks and financial intermediaries. These proposals also include provisions relating to securitisation transactions.
